Millennial Homebuyers Bring Distinct Décor Taste

After years of avoiding home ownership for many reasons, millennials are buying their homes in droves in 2017. As a result, businesses like Harvest Oak Manufacturing stand to benefit from the influx of buyers entering the market. Millennial Homebuyers and Renters Bring Distinct Décor Tastes to Market.

The sheer size of the buyer pool in this generation is enough reason to pay close attention to the decorating preferences of this demographic. According to the Zillow Group Report on Consumer Housing Trends, half of today’s homebuyers are under the age of 36 – a number gleaned from a survey of more than 13,000 homeowners, sellers, buyers and renters who participated for the report.

Millennial Buyers Harvest Oak Manufacturing

Like previous generations, this new crop of homebuyers brings with it their own sense of style and décor. A recent article in The New York Times reported that many millennials are removing details like crown moulding from their homes, abandoning prewar style for a more modern, linear look.

In the same piece, however, there are countless other homebuyers in this age group who not only are leaving the molding in place in their new homes, they’re replacing what had been removed by the previous owners – something Harvest Oak Manufacturing can support as a manufacturer of such details.

Moulding and other aspects of interior design must be camera ready so millennials can share pictures of their home on social media. In an interview with Multi-Housing News at the National Apartment Association’s Education Conference and Exposition, Home Depot’s Sarah Fishburne said a big change is that design elements have to be social media-worthy. Since this show is geared toward property managers, even rental homes can use features like crown moulding to draw the millennial renter’s attention to their available units.

“[Millennials] are buying clothes and couches and rugs that can be shared in that social space,” said Fishburne, who serves as Home Depot’s design and trend director. “This is influencing colors and patterns.”

With that in mind, Harvest Oak Manufacturing can help cater to the design whims and preferences for any generation of homebuyer or renter, including millennials. By partnering with Sherwin-Williams and using the paint giant’s custom color match section, Harvest Oak Manufacturing has the capabilities to provide wood accents in a variety of colors and stains that cater to timeless classics like prewar architecture as well as more modern, linear looks.
